HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — In the south, firearms tend to be a popular Christmas gift, but would you know how to safely shoot and handle a gun if you got one for Christmas?
Jeff White with Bullet and Barrel in South Huntsville gave FOX54's Aiyana Willoughby a gun safety walkthrough.
"When you bring your gear in, set it up on the table and then you remove the firearm with the muzzle facing down the range," said White. "One thing you always want to remember is safety, safety safety. Always know the condition of the gun, muzzle facing down the range at all times, and when you're shooting you want to make sure you're holding the gun properly."
As gun sales increase during the holiday season, White says more people will need gun safety training.
"We teach people who know absolutely nothing about being able to be safe and being able to protect themselves if need be with a firearm," said White.
To help reduce the number of people accidentally injured by firearms, remember these tips:
- Never fire a weapon in the air as a celebration of any kind.
- Make sure all weapons are properly secured and locked away when not in use.
- Firearms and ammo should be stored separately and a gun should never be stored while loaded.
