MADISON, Alabama — The Madison City Council on Monday, December 14, voted to approve the annexation of land in Limestone County.
Within the next few years, two hundred homes, and a new elementary school will be built in West Madison.
Mayor Paul Finley says this is a great edition to the city. "You know one of the things coming back into office in 2016 that we heard loud and clear is that we need to get our feet under us, as far as understanding school growth and city growth."
Mayor Finley also spoke about the thoughtfulness behind this new addition.
"So since 2016 we have not annexed anything larger than three acres into the City of Madison," said Finley. "Five years later working with our schools, Madison utilities, and our folks who are looking for better road infrastructure. This is a good annexation for us and its why we went ahead and pushed forward proactively and in turn it was passed Monday night."
The new land will provide a connection between East and West Madison. It will come equipped with green spaces, and walking paths. Mayor Finley assures Madison residents that the new infrastructure wont cost a dime.
"We have funding structures in place right now, the city and the schools will figure out the best distribution of that, but the public will not be asked to spend any additional money on schools," said Mayor Finley.
