Huntsville City Councilmember Frances Akridge announces she won't run for reelection

With Akridge's announcement, she noted she had not yet found a replacement representative she will endorse.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville City Councilmember Frances Akridge at Thursday's council meeting announced that she will not seek reelection.

"I will not seek another term as your representative," Akridge said. 

With Akridge's announcement, she noted she had not yet found a replacement representative she will endorse.

"I haven't found that person," said Akridge. "I'm not going to try to, I'm going to let god work on that and let the citizens step up that are willing to make a sacrifice. Thank you."

Akridge has served on the council since 2018.

Council President John Meredith during his comments showed his appreciation towards all the work Akridge has done.

"You're going to be missed, councilwoman Akridge," said Meredith. "I look forward to 2022 and working with you to help get some o your priorities enacted before you step down, but it's been fun working with you and I appreciate what you have done and the passion that you have approached your job, so thank you very much."
