Huntsville City Schools asks community to vote for 2020-21 school year calendar

Huntsville City Schools has proposed two calendars for the upcoming school year.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville City Schools needs your input. The school district is proposing two school calendars. Both calendars show a start date of August 17th for the 2020-2021 school year.

School officials say the updated calendars follow the recommendations from the Alabama State Department of Education.

One calendar has schools in session on Monday and Tuesday during Thanksgiving week. The other calendar has e-learning activities for students on those days. School officials say they've also considered the pandemic while drafting the calendars.

"By pushing the start date back of next school year just a little bit, it will allow us more time and more time to put some preparations in place in order to make sure it's a smooth launch for the 2020-2021 school year," says Huntsville City Schools Chief Communications Officer, Craig Williams.

Folks are invited to vote on the proposed calendars through Friday.
