HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — The Huntsville City Schools Board of Education on November 16 voted to approve more than $7 million in upgrades to facilities in the district.
At Jemison Highschool, the board approved a $3.4 million construction project to renovate the school's sports complex. Pearce Construction was awarded the contract at $40 per cubic yard and the project has been assigned a timeline of 240 days.
Highlands Elementary is set to replace its 70 outdated HVAC units in a $2.4 million contract awarded to Pettus Plumbing & Piping, Inc. The new HVAC units will feature a UV component that leaders say will help keep the air clean.
The Milton Frank Stadium will also be getting a makeover with a $1.8 million project to replace and resurface the surface of the track, refurbish concrete bleachers and to add a new long jump pit to the visitor's side of the stadium.
"I'm really excited about this renovation for Milton Frank Stadium because it gives us an opportunity to start bringing in dollars to this city," said Board Member Carlos Mathews.
