HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The annual 'Huntsville Heart Walk' that draws in thousands of participants went virtual this year because of the pandemic. The event is powered by the American Heart Association.
Our very own WZDX News Sports Director Mo Carter emceed the event.
Organizers say heart awareness is more important now than ever. They say they're seeing that 40% of people diagnosed with COVID-19 have some sort of underlying heart issue or had a stroke.
"The American Heart Association has put in $2.5 million worth of research to streamline and see what those relationships are and try to figure out how we can protect our patients, and protect our survivors," says Huntsville Heart Walk Director, Stephanie Cline.
Heart Walk organizers have raised more than $400,000.
