HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Aspiring young basketball players in Huntsville are invited to showcase their skills at the MLK Youth Basketball Clinic hosted by Huntsville Parks & Recreation. The free event is set to take place on Sunday, Jan. 14, from 1-4 p.m. at the Dr. Richard Showers, Sr., Recreation Center.
Experienced coaches will lead the clinic, open to boys and girls ages 7-13. The clinic hopes to uplift youth through the spirit of sportsmanship and provide an inclusive environment for skill development.
James Gossett, Director of Huntsville Parks & Recreation, highlighted the clinic's broader mission, saying, “Dr. King believed in the power of community and unity. Our basketball clinic reflects those principles. It’s not just about honing basketball skills; it’s about bringing the community together and giving back.”
In the spirit of giving back, participants are encouraged to bring a canned food item for donation to the Food Bank of North Alabama. While the donation is requested, it is not mandatory. This small gesture seeks to bring together the love for basketball with a commitment to community welfare.
The clinic will feature one-on-one coaching sessions, team-building exercises, and a focus on the importance of fair play. Open to all skill levels, the free event will accept the first 75 boys and girls who register to ensure personalized instruction.
