Investing in the central area of Huntsville on Clinton Avenue

Some city leaders say one of the most traveled roads in Huntsville is due for a new look. This plan includes a better quality of life.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Some city leaders say one of the most traveled roads in Huntsville is due for a new look. This plan includes a better quality of life and it is more than just road improvements.

District 4 Huntsville City Councilmember Bill Kling said the central area of Huntsville has come a long way. "I think, it's going to be a good shot in the arm for the Lowe Mill West Huntsville community. This is an investment in the central area of the city."

Huntsville city councilmember Bill Kling continued that the central area of Huntsville has come a long way. "There have been some good things that have taken place in the past. But also, I remember rescue missions, drug dealings were very prevalent in that area. Now, there's been some good things have taken place. And for example, if you go down Seminole drive, go into low mill, you're going to find there are some very nice homes that have been construct and many of them are selling for over $300,000 each."

So what other new additions could this new refreshing bring to Huntsville? "One of the most important projects we can have is to make sure you have a new nearby grocery store. And that's going to be one of the things taking place. There could be some new apartment constructions, primarily for elderly, for people in the service industries that will be affordable. And possibly we may even have large numbers of nurses from Huntsville Hospital also having a place to reside at."

Kling explained that a large amount of landscaping drainage work, a greenway walkway, and recreation area could also be expected. "Whatever we can be doing for our existing neighborhoods to make it nicer, that makes Huntsville just that much of a better place to live in." The city agreed to an engineering design contract with barge design solutions for traffic safety and pedestrian improvements. "Everyone at Lowe Mill, this is to make their neighborhood nicer, more walkable, a more retail and things that will help enhance the value."
