Limestone County shows the future of tech on Manufacturing Day

The Limestone County Economic Development Association is celebrating Manufacturing Day. Limestone County is home to a diverse range of manufacturers.

ATHENS, Ala. — The Limestone County Economic Development Association is celebrating Manufacturing Day with its diverse range of manufacturers.

One of the county's biggest economic assets is manufacturing and the county's infrastructure plays a big role. Intech is a company in Athens that has a hand in building robotic tools set to help the medical field.

"We are a contract manufacturer for the medical device industry where we specialize in building instruments and implants used by surgeons... our forte is probably robotics and navigated instruments...we take raw material and turn it into instrument implants that change people's quality of life here locally and abroad," said David Brackeen, General Manager of Intech.

Part of the reason the industry is growing is due to Alabama's educational efforts and providing opportunities for the younger generations to gain experience.

Brackeen went on to say, "It's been a difference maker. I know previously ten, 12 years ago we needed some changes to be made to help support our growth.  The local schools are getting kids ready to go right into workforce as soon as they come out of high school, which is very beneficial to companies like us."

Manufacturing Day happens every year on the first Friday of October. This is when local schools, colleges, and industries get together to teach students the current modern manufacturing technology and find careers available.
