MidCity construction on track despite pandemic

Wahlburgers, Color Me Mine, Kamado Ramen, and Kung Fu Tea are still on schedule to open up this summer.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville is growing, and even though the pandemic has shut down many operations, one thing that hasn't stopped is construction.

Nadia Niakossary with RCP Companies said, "Right now, we're on schedule. The next buildings to go up will be the ones right next to Wahlburgers, which we call Block 7, and then finishing up Block 5, which is next to Dave and Busters, and then, construction will move into the center of the project."

Although non-essential businesses can't reopen right now, many are still eager to open new locations.

"That's one thing that really hasn't slowed down is leasing," said Niakossary. "I think the retail world in general is planning for the future. We do virtual tours, virtual presentations to potential tenants still."

Touchstar Cinemas and Hotel Indigo are set to open next year.

Wahlburgers, Color Me Mine, Kamado Ramen, and Kung Fu Tea are all on schedule to open up this year.

"We've given them their buildings, but of course, they're not really in a rush to open their buildings right now," said Niakossary. "Those are still on schedule to open by the end of summer. Whether they do or not is really up to the orders of the government."

The Camp may be closed, but they're still making a difference in the community. They recently gave out 5,000 meals to workers on the front lines and people in need.

They say they're continuing to give back as the pandemic continues.

Niakossary said, "We are on a mission right now to serve 150 meals per day through the end of June. We are raising money for that right now. We've created these Feed HSV t-shirts. For each t-shirt sold, we will provide three meals for somebody in need."
