HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Unfortunately, pet surrenders happen more frequently during the holiday season, and especially now in the age of COVID.
Oftentimes it's for financial reasons, people moving, or the new member of the family just isn't working out as expected.
Huntsville Animal Shelter says it is important to look at all of your options and consider alternatives.
"We try very hard not to ever have an animal back in the shelter, so we have lots of other options. We can, if they're spayed or neutered, we can post them on our Facebook page, if it's not working out at the home, after you adopt a pet please contact us or the rescues, because they want to know, they wanna know why it's not working out and we have some avenues to help you."
Other options include financial support for pet food. And when it comes to surrendering a pet, it's best to give them to a shelter instead of someone else.
