HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville's historic downtown is set to transform with groundbreaking on the Lewter District, a $50 million mixed-use community that aims to breathe new life into a local landmark.
On Wednesday, the development team from RNGD and Emergent Properties will break ground on the 1.5-acre project in the 200 block of Washington Street NE, strategically centered around the historic Lewter Hardware building.
One of the most anticipated elements of the project is the arrival of Brick & Tin, a popular Birmingham restaurant that will establish its first Huntsville location in the restored historic structure. Construction is slated to begin in early 2025.
Poole and Company Architects is leading the Brick & Tin redesign.
The district will also bring 14 upscale townhomes to downtown Huntsville.
Project leaders will be onsite during the groundbreaking ceremony, which runs from 2:30-4 p.m. The development represents a significant investment in preserving Huntsville's architectural heritage while creating a modern, dynamic urban space.
Developers say the Lewter District will combine new construction with thoughtful restoration, offering a glimpse into Huntsville's commitment to honoring its past while building for the future.
