HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Want to share some love this Valentine's Day with someone who will love you back? Huntsville Animal Services has that perfect someone for you.
From Feb. 5-Feb 13, the adoption fee for most adult large dogs is reduced to $10-$35. This includes the pets’ spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchip, heartworm check, a City license and a free bag of dog food.
Can't adopt right now? Consider fostering an animal through the Shelter’s Foster-to-Adopt Program or for a weekend “sleepover.”
The Foster-to-Adopt Program allows you a 14-day trial period with the dog and is for someone interested in adopting an adult dog, but would like to ‘test drive’ the dog at home. Although this is a very successful program, HAS warns owners that all new pets should be given at least 3 months to settle into a new home and new routine.
The Sleepover Program allows you to take home a pet for 1 to 4 nights. Upon returning the pet to the shelter, you'll complete a form sharing all the information collected about the pet during their visit including information such as: did the pet like other pets, housebroken, tolerates cats, likes children, etc. This program helps HAS develop a profile for the shelter pet.
The Huntsville Animal Shelter is open Monday through Saturday for adoptions. Hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
