HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The first day of the Space and Missile Defense Symposium is in the books. It's the leading educational, professional development and networking event in the space and missile defense community. The symposium brings together the top government and industry leaders in space and missile defense in one event, and some future potential industry leaders are learning more about it.
David Caine is a senior at James Clemens High School. He visited the SMD Symposium on a STEM tour with the Huntsville group Women in Defense. "Learning things from places like this is really good. As a senior, I think it's great because I'm on a robotics team and a lot of this stuff kind of correlates. And if you learn about them now, you know, you might be able to find that field that you might enjoy."
Gray Analytics president Scott Gray agrees and adds another key element about why this symposium is important. "Huntsville for a long time has played an important role in national security, specifically with missile defense. This is one time of year that people from thousands of people from around the world come to Huntsville to collaborate, to see the latest in technology. The capabilities are there to support the warfighter and to defend our country."
Caine shared a couple of things he learned at the event. "Raytheon has a missile that they were talking about, and that's just what they use for intercepting missiles in space. So it's great for just the world in general. I mean, a lot of this stuff and yeah, [I] think it's really cool."
