HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Thrive Alabama’s reach for access to care just got bigger! The medical clinic officially opened its doors to kids with a pediatrics practice and is on 4810 Whitesport Circle in Huntsville.
The new pediatrics clinic will service about 3,000 patients in North Alabama and also provides, “Transportation, translation services, case management, mental health,” said Thrive Alabama CEO, Mary Elizabeth Marr.
The hours of operations are:
Monday - Thursday: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Closed for lunch: noon - 1 p.m.
Friday: 8 a.m. - noon
Marr said the practice accepts patients who don’t have Medicaid, Medicare, or health insurance.
However, sometimes it’s still tough for Medicaid patients who are seeking pediatric care.
“Sometimes a regular pediatric practice is not able to provide these services or the care on a sliding fee scale basis for Medicaid patients. Children are usually covered under Allkids and so we are pediatricians office that will take that,” said Marr.
“I think it’s great, especially for this community offering service to people who can’t always afford great pediatric or general practitioner care,” said the mother of one patient, Zoe Johnson.
In fact, Johnson's daughter was Thrive Alabama’s first kid patient. “We call her big zero. She was the first baby the pediatrics unit ever saw.”
Thrive Alabama pediatrics will consider offering COVID vaccinations in the coming weeks.
“I love having someone I trust to be a doctor to my child. The whole staff is great, so sweet. Always picking up my calls. When I’m like, ‘Hey this doesn’t look right, I need help, video chatting me,” said Johnson.
The new site will service families - until construction for the pediatrics clinic on Oakwood Avenue and Washington Street is complete in the next two to three years.
