BIRMINGHAM, Ala — An infectious diseases doctor at UAB tells us about a promising study done with the drug Remdesivir.
The study compared several hundred patients who randomly received either a dose of a placebo or a dose of Remdesivir.
While Remdesivir isn't a miracle drug, she says the numbers are encouraging.
"The people who got the Remdesivir recovered quicker. It was about four days faster than the people who got the placebo, and there was a trend towards improved survival, which was really important. When you say there is a trend, that means that if you continued on it and enrolled more patients it might have been statistically significant. But those things both together really give us a lot of confidence that this drug has good activity against the coronavirus."
