MADISON, Alabama — Multiple city of Madison orginizations are teaming up to bring residents a new way to learn about the city's history: the Walking Tour of Historic Madison mobile app.
The app is scheduled for release on November 13. Users will follow a self-guided walking tour of historic Madison, Alabama, featuring historic characters. Additionally, the city said residents will now be able to view the renovated historic train roundhouse.
The tour will highlight the city's architecture and early formative history, according to the city.
"Most of the buildings on this tour date to the late 19th and early 20th centuries when Madison was founded as a shipping station on the Memphis and Charleston railroads," the city said in its announcement.
The app is a joint project with the Rotary Club of Madison-Sunset Group, the Madison Visionary Partners, the Madison Station Historical Preservation Society and the Girl Scouts of North Alabama.
Local Girl Scout Finley Koswoski helped create the app by compiling historical summaries, recording segments and helping the city unveil the app. For more information, visit the app's Facebook page.
