MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs announced on Wednesday that Governor Kay Ivey has started a $2.6 million program to help Alabamians who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

This money comes from the Emergency Solutions Grants program and will help local governments and nonprofit organizations provide important housing services.

The grants are designed to assist people and families facing homelessness, including victims of violence or those in temporary housing situations. A total of 12 municipalities and organizations in Alabama will receive these funds.

“Emergency Solutions Grants are in many cases that last bit of rope from which those who are facing tough situations can pull themselves up to safety and go on to rebuild their lives,” Gov. Ivey said. “I commend local governments and regional organizations for their participation in a program that truly helps people in a critical time in their lives.”

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) will manage these grants, funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. ADECA oversees various programs that support economic development, law enforcement, and community resources.
