HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Following the postponement of his team's season opener at Mississippi Valley State on Monday, Alabama A&M head football coach Connell Maynor began searching for a new opponent. By the middle of the week, he had a replacement.
Today, South Carolina State announced that they will host Alabama A&M on Saturday in Orangeburg, South Carolina at 1:30 PM/12:30 PM Central.
This will be the first matchup between the two sets of Bulldogs since 2013. South Carolina State beat Alabama A&M, 32-0 that season.
Alabama A&M head football coach Connell Maynor faced off against South Carolina State when he was the head coach of the Hampton Pirates. He held a 1-3 record against SCSU.
The Alabama A&M Bulldogs have not played yet this spring. Their first game against Alcorn State was canceled after the Braves opted out.
This week's game against Mississippi Valley State was postponed to April. MVSU had a player test positive for COVID-19 and they are following the SWAC's COVID-19 protocols.
If this game had not been scheduled, then Alabama A&M would have waited until March 20th to play their first football game against an opponent this year.
