MADISON, Ala. — Congratulations are in order for Joseph Carlucci, the owner of Valentina's Pizzeria and Wine Bar, who now holds the title of "BEST traditional pizza in the world".
Carlucci is humbly proud of his big win in Las Vegas. "I know there's a lot of great pizza makers out there and places, so, it's an honor." Carlucci also said, "You know it's luck and a lot of hard work. I owe it all to my team and God."
Carlucci said he couldn't believe his ears when he picked up the phone and was told the news that this time it wasn't fifth place, but first. "I dropped the phone, and I cried. I don't like to be overly confident, but I was just hoping to win the region."
This wasn't his first time competing in the competition, nor was this the first award he's won, but it is the biggest. Last time he competed in this competition, he took home fifth place, but didn't let that deter him from returning; and it's a good thing that he didn't.
Carlucci said that the phones have been ringing off of the hook, and that many community members have congratulated him on bringing the big win home.
