HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Every child deserves care. Harris Home for Children provides full-time foster care services and crisis support for neglected adolescent children in Alabama.
Harris Home for Children explains their services this way: It is the only emergency crisis service in the state of Alabama so when children unexpectedly find themselves without a safe space to sleep, or wondering where their next meal will come from, Harris Home for Children is the only place to turn.
North Huntsville's DARK.SIDE Coffee hosts a monthly "Brunch with Brothers" that benefits local non-profits. On Sunday, January 17, the parking lot event supports Harris Home for Children. Tickets for their Seafood Sunday event, which runs from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m., are available here. Meals and music are outdoors to allow for safe social distancing during COVID. The menu includes fish, crab, and shrimp seafood street tacos, sweet potato Cajun cheese fries, and a small coffee, tea, or specially mixed mimosa punch. A vegetarian option will also be available.
So far, they have donated more than $2,500 to local non-profits from Brunch with Brothers.
One of the four coffee shop owners, City Councilman Devyn Keith (D1), shared a post on Facebook about the event and his personal connection to fostering:
Keith said that his two boys both came from the Harris Homes Teen Living program, so they all have a special connection to the place.
"It's important for us to be able to give back, it was really important for Devyn, obviously he adopted a child from the Harris Home, and so it's just one of those things to where, you know, we look at it in any opportunity, any capacity that we can, we just wanna be a blessing to others," said Jaray Wilson, one of the four owners of DARK.SIDE Coffee.
