HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — North Alabama music lovers are invited to connect with fellow fans and musicians and get more involved with Huntsville’s music scene at the next HSV Quarterly Music Meetup on Thursday, June 23.
The event will run from 6-8:30 p.m. at The Orion Amphitheater at MidCity District. Musicians and curators from Blast Music, a free streaming platform from the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (HMCPL) featuring local artists, and members of the Huntsville Music Board will also participate.
Huntsville Music Officer Matt Mandrella encourages all those passionate about the local music scene to come network with others within the music community. Attendees will also hear the latest updates from the Huntsville Music Office, including the announcement of an initiative that should be music to attendees’ ears.
“The foundations for a successful music ecosystem are already in place here,” Mandrella said. “We’re excited to introduce a new initiative that helps us build excitement around all aspects of Huntsville’s music culture and shine a brighter spotlight on our uniquely vibrant, diverse and awesome music scene.”
This will be the first HSV Quarterly Music Meetup featuring artists from Blast Music. HMCPL Digital Services Librarian Annie Phillips said including Blast makes sense, considering the service now features more than 80 area artists.
“We’re proud to offer a music platform that reflects the broad and inclusive diversity of talent throughout North Alabama,” she said. “This is a great opportunity for our team of artists and curators to connect with the music community directly and get even more musicians interested in joining Blast.”
The Meetup will also give anyone who hasn’t visited The Orion an opportunity to check out the venue, which has been praised by artists and fans alike since it opened in May. Performers who have recently graced The Orion’s stage include Dave Matthews Band, Kenny Chesney, Dierks Bentley, Widespread Panic and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson. The venue has also featured several artists with North Alabama connections, including Jason Isbell, Brittany Howard, Kelvin Wooten and Deqn Sue.
“We are thrilled to host the HSV Quarterly Music Meetup at The Orion Amphitheater,” said Ryan Murphy, The Orion’s general manager. “Not only is it a natural fit but it aligns with our commitment to supporting and amplifying Huntsville’s local music scene.”
Free parking will be available at the Meetup, and attendees should enter through the north box office gate. Guests will also receive complimentary guided tours of The Orion from 6-6:30 p.m. Food trucks will be on-site offering food and beverages for purchase.
