HUNTSVILLE, Ala. —
A brand new recreation center in Huntsville is causing quite the buzz. They've just finished the first phase of construction and there’s plenty more to come.
Sandra Moon Community Complex, which is being built on the former campus of Grissom High School, is making progress in construction.
A number of people were out Friday morning playing a game that’s become more popular in recent months. It’s called “pickleball”! The courts have recently opened and are already a hit.
Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle stopped by and said centers like these, are great for our community. Mayor Battle tells our reporter, “You look at the people playing pickleball here. You think of the people who will be playing basketball in the gym or somebody who’s going to be working in the arts theater in the theater area, or going to the library...This is what makes community and this is what makes a great quality of life.”
We’re told there were a few delays in construction due to long spells of rain.
The center will also be home to the new South Huntsville Library-- which is expected to be completed in Summer 2021.
