NEW MARKET, Ala. — Despite the pandemic, Zook's Orchard in New Market has been busy with people coming out to pick natural blueberries and blackberries.
The orchard drew a large crowd Saturday as they opened up to the public.
If you visit this year, things may look a little different. Instead of handing out buckets, they're giving customers plastic bags to fill with berries.
They have a hand sanitizing station when you walk in and plexiglass shields when you're ready to pay.
Zook's Orchard Owner, Terri Zook, said, "We've had a lot more people this year I think because everybody's been cooped up in their house."
Zook's Orchard Owner, Keith Zook, said, "A couple months ago, we were kind of wondering if we were going to open and really making some hard decisions. We're glad that folks feel comfortable coming out here and visiting us and picking with us."
They are limiting the amount of people picking in the orchard to maintain social distancing guidelines and are asking that people avoid paying with cash.
Zook's Orchard is open Tuesday - Friday from 6:30 pm to dark and Saturdays from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays.
