HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — (ALABAMA GOLF ASSOCIATION) Defending Champion, Michaela Morard of Huntsville, fired a four-over 76 to be crowned the record-breaking champion of the Girls State Junior Amateur Championship. She scored an impressive four-over 220 overall.
With this victory, Morard now holds the state record for most Girls State Junior Championship titles. Prior to play, she shared the record with Martha Lang (1967-1970), who is currently a member of the USGA executive committee.
Throughout the back-nine, it was a tight race for first place between Morard and Emma Pittman of Pike Road.
Pittman scored a two-over 74 for the third round to stand second place with an overall score of six-over 222.
Lauren Thompson of Midland City posted a two-over 74 for the day and an overall eight-over 224 to place third.
Ashley-Sinclair Curtis of Enterprise carded an eight-over 80 for the final round. Overall, Curtis scored a 14-over 230 to claim fourth place.
Emilia Smith of Enterprise shot a seven-over 79 for round three. Smith placed fifth with an overall score was a 16-over 232.
